How to choose colors for a mandala
A beautiful mandala depends less on how many colors you use than on how well they balance. Here’s a simple method to build a palette that soothes the eye instead of tiring it.

Start from the center
The center catches the eye first. Give it your brightest or most vivid color, then work outward ring by ring. If each ring shares a color with its neighbor, the whole design stays connected.
Three colors to begin with
One main color for the large areas, a second for the medium ones, and a third, brighter one saved for the small details. Light and dark versions of the same hue round it out without weighing it down.
Play with symmetry
Repeating the same color on every petal of a ring creates calm. Alternating two colors from one petal to the next adds movement. Both work: pick whichever suits your mood.
Leave room to breathe
Keeping a few areas white isn’t an oversight. The white of the paper makes neighboring colors stand out, especially around the center.
